4.3.5 Buttons
A button is one of the most common devices for the player to interact with the game. There are many different types of buttons, but the majority share a common set of features. We will start by focusing on the core functionality that most buttons should have. A button is a user interface element that has a state, its default state is when the button is not pressed and ready for input. It can be active, or selected, which could mean the presence of some input device is over it, like a mouse cursor. When input is received, the button is pressed and at some point it will be released. Some buttons may also have some additional properties, such as being checked or disabled to prevent any input from the player.
